The Government has indicated its intention to verify farmersí compliance with statutory co-existence rules, and to monitor the general performance of co-existence in practice with a view to reviewing arrangements after a specified period.
The format and frequency of such monitoring will be determined by the scale of commercial GM crop cultivation. It seems likely that independent inspections will be carried out by Government-appointed agencies, such as the GM Inspectorate or Rural Payments Agency.
This is the fourth component of SCIMACís six-point plan on co-existence.
